Beginning in 2020, King Consultants was retained by Tutor Perini Corporations to act as the environmental consultant for lead testing, project design, and project oversight during the lead abatement project of the Carlsbad Caverns National Park Elevator Replacement Project. In the following 28 months, King Consultants completed air sampling, surface sampling, and debris sampling during lead abatement from the 800 foot elevator structure in the cavern visitors center. These responsibilities included ensuring public safety from lead exposure, worker and contractor safety, ecosystem and cave structure protection, and clearance sampling and inspections following the successful completion of each phase. Additionally, asbestos materials were encountered during the project, at which time sampling and abatement oversight was completed by King Consultants. The total scope of lead work totaled over $600,000 and was successfully completed within the expected timeline and budget.
